PEnn State dance Marathon
THON is a 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon to raise money to combat pediatric cancer. It was started in 1973 and has since developed into the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. The sisters of Alpha Delta Pi are partnered with the brothers of Theta Delta Chi for THON. In the months leading up to the event, we go canning in nearby towns and stay at the homes of sisters for a weekend, participate in alternative fundraisers on campus and downtown, and spend time with our three shared THON families. At THON 2017, together we raised $133,448.90, which contributed to the $10 million event total. Alpha Delta Pi was also given the prestigious opportunity to host a THON explorers event where we took THON children to a recording studio to let them record their very own song. Our chapter was also featured in the 2017 THON Yearbook. THON holds a special place in our hearts because families that stay at the Ronald McDonald House are often affected by pediatric cancer. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to contribute to our national philanthropy in more ways than one and help make amazing things possible for the kids.
